A recent headline suggested that "retail therapy" might be just the thing needed to recover from the drama of the election...but is what you're longing for really found on aisle 21 at Target? Perhaps this Christmas, you are seeking some deeper peace in your life. Advent begins Sunday November 27th. Advent is a time in the Christian year when we consider the miracle that God is not a distant father-figure doling out punishment and reward from afar but is instead a "down-to-earth" God who moves among us, inviting us into lives of love and humble care for one another. A Vision of Hope: They Will Plant Vineyards, and Eat Their Fruit (Is. 65:17-25)

This week's scripture Isaiah 65:17-25 speaks a word of hope to a desperate people. The prophet Isaiah recognizes the despair around him, and paints of picture of God's coming peaceable kingdom; a new world of peace and wholeness when people will no longer labor fruitlessly in vain while others unjustly prosper from their efforts. Instead, Isaiah envisions a place where the laborers who plant the fruit are the same ones who get to eat it, too. Isaiah calls people towards a new world of peace and wholeness when the sound of weeping and crying shall be no more. Yes, this is a challenging time for our country. Start your Christmas shopping off right by visiting Knox's annual Christmas Bazaar on Nov. 26th 9 am - 3pm at Knox (1650 W. 3rd St. Santa Rosa).
