Knox "pedals" for protein to feed hungry.

Terry Swehla, a Knox elder (church board member) rode 10 miles today as part of a fundraising event to purchase protein for local food banks. This is the third year that the Presbytery of the Redwoods (the regional Presbyterian governing body) has taken to the roads to combat hunger. In 2014-2015, Pedal for Protein raised $49,000 to donate high-quality, much-needed protein to families through local food pantries, and will contribute again in 2016. This year's ride covers 268 miles over 5 days, including shorter one-day rides like Terry's. Terry is very grateful to Knox church members, family, and friends who donated personally to her ride and through Knox's monthly "Cents-a-bility" offering.

Interim Pastor Approved for Ordination!

Knox's Interim Pastor Emily Stockert went before the Presbytery of the Redwoods (the regional governing body) to be approved for ordination on Sept. 17. She presented her "Statement of Faith" (read it here) and answered a number of tricky theological questions from other pastors in the area. Emily is grateful to the Knox members who attended the meeting with her and to all the parishioners and friends who showed support in other ways. Next up for Emily is an ordination service, which will happen at Knox in November. Then, she'll officially be "Rev. Emily" and can do the honor of breaking the bread and pouring the wine at communion.

Homecoming Sunday Was a Success!

Knox celebrated Homecoming Sunday on Sept. 11. Homecoming Sunday is an annual fall tradition of welcoming summer travelers home and kicking off Sunday School. The whole Knox team pulled together to get the floors shining and the food served! The turnout for worship and the BBQ was great. Pastor Emily preached a lively sermon on Luke 15:1-10, telling tales of little lost ducklings and sheep. The kids had a fun time making train art - the Sunday School theme this year is "Disciples in Training" - and decorating the tables. Thanks to all who came out for this wonderful event!

She has a passion for serving God, a natural preaching style, and love for leading worship. Emily graduated with her Master’s in Divinity from San Francisco Theological Seminary in May 2016. During commencement, she received the seminary's highest academic honor, the “Alumni Fellowship Award.” She’s also an Ohio State Buckeye. Emily lives in Santa
